The Beauty of Natural Colours

‘Brown Butterfly Shawl’ was displayed at the recent exhibition of the Canterbury area of Creative Fibre (New Zealand Spinning Weaving and Woolcrafts Society Inc.) at the Christchurch Museum.

Made entirely from natural coloured undyed wool, using the ‘Butterfly | Papillon’ shawl pattern by Marin Melchior, available on the knitters’ and crocheters’ website Ravelry, this shawl won the award of the North Canterbury branch of the BCSBA, for the best handspun, handknitted natural coloured garment.

The award was a magnificent Romney ewe fleece from Karetu Koloureds peddie@amuri.net

  1. Absolutely Outstanding Art !
I always knew Shirley Peddie bred the very best coloured sheep in the world.
Hearty congratulations to the knitter of the gorgeous shawl, and the sheep breeder
    Loris

  2. In fact this shawl was made from different fleeces from the knitter’s own flock of coloured sheep. As a matter of interest, she wholehearted agrees with you about the quality of Shirley’s fleeces and is looking forward to using the prize fleece. She is also now using rams from Shirley’s flock!
