Manawatu Branch
Manawatu is a forward-looking branch; in fact, we've been known to do a spot of stirring.
Our large geographic area covers the lower left quarter of the North Island, from Taihape and Taranaki in the north down to Wellington and its surrounds. Our members range from those with small lifestyle blocks and very small flocks to professional farmers. Several members are woolcrafters with no sheep, but they have a thirst for knowledge about sheep and wool.
Our activities include:
- Field Days During the year, we hold meetings at locations throughout the branch area. These are friendly and relaxed, with plenty of opportunities to learn at all levels, from basic to advanced. Often we visit a member's farm to see their sheep and share ideas.
- Annual Baling Day A great opportunity for members to pool their fleeces so that all of us can get a better price.
- North Island Sale is held in Feilding every second year.
From time to time we also organise seminars or workshops and we encourage our members to show their sheep and wool at A&P shows in the region. Members receive newsletters with updates on field days and other items of interest. If you'd like a copy of the current newsletter or more information about what's happening in our area, contact our Secretary (details below). We'd love to see you at one of our field days!
